Katie Boucher and Neil Thain invite you to visit Eclektika Galerie - Boutique, at 10 Second Street in downtown Collingwood. "We tried to come up with a name that truly describes what we are" Neil said. Clearly the couple has hit a home run in choosing the name because you will definately find items created by artists and crafts people from different and truly unique backgrounds. "I've grown up in a family of artists so art has always been there for me. Our goal is to make art accessible no matter what the budget is" Katie said. "Our galerie-boutique is very similar to what you might find when you visit Montreal, but in this case, we have been totally influenced by the work of local artists" Katie added. A huge portion of the inventory has been created by artists from the immediate Georgian Triangle, southern Georgian Bay region.Eclektika is different than a normal gallery. "We have a very retail approach" Neil said. "You can purchase the artwork. We want you to ask about it, get close to it, pick it up, and get a feel for it" he added. . .
We have a very retail approach. Ask about it ... get close to it ... pick it up
When you visit Eclektika in downtown Collingwood, you are sure to be attracted to the unique wooden sculptures on display. Andre Dorais is a wood artist from the province of Quebec. He works with exotic woods imported from Brazil and Africa. Yellow, purple and zebra woods are specially treated, and Dorais' work is exclusive to the shelves of Eclektika, never having been displayed in Ontario before.
While Neil and Katie work to build long-term relationships with artists, the inventory at Eclektika will always feature new works. "We actually go on art tours. We look for people who make beautiful art that we know we can sell in the gallerie" Neil said, adding that already, they are featuring the works of more than 20 artists. You'll find paintings, photography, accessories including jewellery, wooden sculptures and accent pieces. Aclektika is certainly a destination for lovers of artistic expression, and should also be a destination for those of us looking to purchase wedding or house warming gifts.
